One of the most rewarding aspects of my job as a scientific translator is that familiar “ping” in my inbox when a client emails to say that their article has been published. It never gets old!

Over the summer, I received one of those emails from Dr. Raúl Navarro Olivas, a Psychology professor at the University of Castilla-La Mancha and a much valued client. He reached out to share the exciting news that his research team’s article, “Relationships Between Parental Proviolence Attitudes, Parental Moral Disengagement, and Aggressive Behaviour in Preschoolers: The Moderating Role of Teacher-Child Closeness” had been published in the journal New Directions for Child and Adolescent Development. This was an article I had the privilege of proofreading, editing and polishing back in September 2023. Cue my happy dance!
Moments like this remind me that my work adds a small but meaningful contribution to the vast mountain of scientific knowledge. I help bridge the gap between the brilliant ideas of academics in Spain and the global audience they aim to reach. It’s not just about fixing grammar and spelling mistakes; it’s about ensuring these ideas have the best chance to resonate and make an impact, without getting lost in translation. It’s a bit like working behind the scenes at a show or a concert: nobody sees you, but it wouldn’t be the same without you!
Every article I translate or proofread is a collaboration. I work closely with clients, ensuring I understand their needs and the nuances of their research. So when their paper gets published, I celebrate with them. I’m both proud and honoured to play even a small role in helping their work get the recognition it deserves.
A special thanks to Raúl for trusting me with his work and for taking the time to share the news. You can read the full article here and learn more about his work on his ResearchGate Profile.
